Franklin Delano Roosevelt (30 Jan. 1882-12 Apr. 1945), thirty-second president of the United States, was born on his family's estate in Dutchess County, New York, the son of James Roosevelt, a wealthy, landed gentleman who dabbled in but usually devoted no great effort to business, and Sara Delano. As the World War II drew to a close, Roosevelt's health deteriorated, and on April 12, 1945, while at Warm Springs, Georgia, he died of a cerebral hemorrhage. |

He won election to the New York Senate in 1910. President Wilson appointed him Assistant Secretary of the Navy, and he was the Democratic nominee for Vice President in 1920. FDR became the 32nd president of the United States, assuming office in 1933. He was elected four times and served until his death in 1945. |
